I think the venue on the lake shore is amazing. You get a full free show of highly expert pilots flying aircraft that cost more than what most people make in their entire lives. What's the bad value in this. I love that the planes zooming overhead are exciting for both adults and kids - similar to the joy of watching fireworks. There's skill, daring and community. I love the parachutes that spiral down and the planes that fly in tight formations. One of my favorite tricks is when a plane flies straight up and then free-falls for a few seconds. People can watch the show from the beach which has it's own set of variables: playing in the sand and water, picnics and tanning. I've always watched from a nearby building either in the air conditioning or the rooftop. Either way, you can listen to commentary of the show from a radio. My parents took us on a gorgeous sunny day and we watched from the north side of the pier's far end. There was the Aeroshell Acrobatic duo, the Firebirds Delta team, a few biplanes, and some parachute squadrons.
